Why did the chickens cross the road? Because they thought it was a egg-cellent idea! Chickens was the theme for the Preschool Storytime on February 28th, and from rhyming text to prose we were introduced to the antics of some baby chicks, hens, and roosters. Here are some of the stories we shared!
Stuck in the Mud by Jane Clarke kept everyones attention as a scamp of a baby chick is stuck in mud — or so his mother thinks. After involving all the animals on the farm including the farmer, we find the baby chick was just playing in the mud and thanked everyone for joining him.
Peepsqueak by Leslie Ann Clark had everyone repeating the phrase “He was on the move!” as the baby chick is determined from the start to fly high. His attempts, though, always leave him falling down on to soft grass. Consoled by his mother at his failed attempts to fly, the Gray Goose takes Peepsqueak on a flight above the farm on his back.
Chickens to the Rescue by John Himmelman told of the Greenstalk family’s farm animals and how they find their way out of predicaments throughout the week by their industrious chickens. The family finds after all their help that even the chickens need a day of rest.
